The iKhwezi Foundation, together with the African Eye Institute, is providing free spectacles to underprivileged young learners in KwaZulu-Natal.
During the first phase of the Lenten Lens Project, 490 pupils were tested by a qualified optometrist resulting in 92 receiving a brand-new pair of spectacles. For the first time in their school career, these children are able to clearly read the blackboard and books and study with relative ease.
We move to the next phase and a new school shortly. Â It is our sincere prayer that the academic lives of our underprivileged children are radically positively altered.
The iKhwezi Foundation is assisting the Sukuwamenza Hospice in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal to relocate to larger, more secure premises.
Presently, the hospice, which is the only care facility of its type in the area, manages all medical and practical needs of 15 patients. Because the need is so great, the Sisters of the Daughters of Charity have decided to relocate to a building at the Matikwe Mission which is able to house 30 patients.
The new facility also boasts significant outdoor spaces which will enable patients to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside and also offers easier access to medical facilities.
Do something beautiful for God, by assisting those who are terminally ill to move to the next phase of life with grace and dignity.
The iKhwezi Foundation, together with the KZN Catholic Schools Office, gave 1 200 young learners who reside in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, KwaZulu-Natal, new school shoes. The economically challenged families of many young learners find the purchase of school shoes (and other school requirements) prohibitive. They often have to sacrifice other necessities such as much needed nutrition in order to purchase shoes. This is an annual project which makes a change in the lives of young learners and their families.
The iKhwezi Foundation, together with Boxer Supertrade, has delivered sanitary pads to 450 young ladies in rural KwaZulu-Natal. Sanitary pads are expensive and often young learners cannot afford to buy these products and so regularly miss going to school and often contract infections buy using other, less hygienic, means of protection. This is an ongoing project and your donations will help young ladies achieve their potential at school.
In March 2024, a tornado ripped through parts of Northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Communities had their water supply threatened when rubble resulting from the Tornado found it’s way into the river, their main source of water.
The iKhwezi Foundation, together with Boxer Supertrade, provided funding to restore the infrastructure in the community. We also assisted poor families to restore their homes which had been badly damaged.
Supported by our donors, the main structure of Saint Cecelia’s mission church was erected. The internal construction of the building stalled due to ack of funds, rendering the it almost unusable.
The iKhwezi Foundation took the mission church under its wing and working with Father Mtshe, the Parish Priest, completed the sealing of all windows, installed sound, safe electrics, tiled and refurbished the sanctuary. We also had a marble altar, tabernacle and ambo made and purchased a presidential chair and stools for the altar servers.
What a difference our donors have made to this community which can now meet and worship in safety, peace and tranquillity.
The Parish of Saint Joseph, which kindly accommodates, free of charge, the offices of iKhwezi, runs a feeding scheme each Thursday for approximately 120 – 150 destitute people. In the main, the scheme serves folk who reside on the street.  Â
In thanksgiving for the kindness of the Parish, the iKhwezi Foundation supplies one substantial meal per week.
Churches in the area take turns to feed the destitute community, so they are catered for most days and, whilst living on the streets is severely challenging, at least our Thursday guests do not have to navigate an already difficult life on an empty tummy. We are very grateful for your support and kindness.
